Please Disney Channel, quit dispensing politically correct propaganda and brainwashing kids.
I didn't want to do any more columns about race, because you can't change people's minds with logic. However, in Disney's case, I've got to speak up, to take on this Florida-based world corporate giant, because if I don't, the truth won't get said.
During the recent Black History Month, Disney TV Channel had a cartoon where a white teacher tells a young black girl that black people in the United States had no history.
I'm not against Black History Month, telling the contributions made by black Americans, though in fairness, I think they should also have a white, Latino and Oriental history month. The theory behind having only a Black History Month, is that in the past, history books were only taught from the white perspective, white history. So, instead of concentrating our demands on having a more fair, balanced history book, we've opted for this counterproductive, divisive, well-intentioned revenge (Black History Month).
In other words, opposed to what your mother told you, two wrongs, discrimination and reverse discrimination, really do make a right.
Most Americans, whatever their color, are fair-minded.
Back to the cartoon. The great majority of teachers are liberals. How many teachers do you know would say black people have had no history? You see, for the black girl to stridently defend herself in the cartoon, Disney had to create a demon for her, a bad guy, in this case, the white teacher.
The little girl, with a touch of arrogance, haughtily tells the teacher, "I'm an African American" (spoken as though with a chip on her shoulder).
My response to that would be to say to her, "sweetheart, you're not African. You've never been to Africa. You're American. I don't agree with hyphenated names (African-American). Africa is a giant continent with dozens of languages, cultures and countries.
What if I called myself a European American. It would sound just as dumb.
Disney is in the business of making quick-to-take-offense zealots out of children, politically-correct-washing their brains. The Indian maiden Pocahontas was portrayed a few years back as a feminist and environmentalist, even though there's not a shred of historical evidence the real woman was any of those things.
Disney has a long history of irresponsibly fabricating history to make a biased point. The irony is that in the old days, it was more from the right wing, reflecting the personal bias of Walt Disney, an anti-Semitic, commie-hunting pal of J. Edgar Hoover, who labeled his underpaid employees "reds" every time they asked for a raise.
Now, the pendulum has swing completely the other way. Why can't they just be fair?
When Disney promotes this politically correct agenda, I as a private citizen who disagrees, have no equal time or a similar use of the airwaves to respond. This website is my only chance.
